How He Got Started
From as far back as 4 years old, DJ Roy Stone has always loved music! He recalls being able to recognize his favorite songs by the label on his father’s 45s. His all-time favorite at that age, was Lee Dorsey’s Ya Ya. He played that record so much he wore out the grooves. He was so distraught by that that his dad had to go get him a new record.
DJ Roy taught himself to play the guitar by ear. He loved it so much he took the opportunity to play with friends and formed a band. DJ Roy’s love for music led him to hundreds, if not thousands, of concerts over the years and connected him to many other music enthusiasts who blessed him with opportunities to meet some of the biggest top artists including the Temptations and Brian Culbertson, and many more. All of this love for music eventually led him to becoming one of the Bay Area’s preeminent DJs.
For over 30 years, Roy has worked as DJ Roy, and most recently, The DJ Roy Experience, and he has been thrilling audiences and doing events with his complete grasp of most genres of music, beats, levels, lyrics, timing, lighting, mood, and more. He loves working with his clients to create the perfect playlists. His favorite genres are Old School, including Motown, Funk, Classic Soul, and Smooth Jazz, but he can bring you home with Gospel, Straight Ahead Jazz, Classical, Country, Rock, and Salsa. You name it, he can bring it!
The DJ Roy Experience works closely with each client and loves to create memorable and exhilarating experiences for every event. While DJ Roy specializes in weddings and also offers event planning consultation and advice, he also works with some of the Bay Area’s top media, music, nonprofit, and entrepreneurial organizations and people.
